Model Prep Presentation

My sister Tyesha had a Model Preparation Project when she was at college last year. She had to present a model to a board of judges that she had dressed from head to toe including hair,make-up and outfit. She ia a big Tim Burton fan so she decided to use that as her inspiration for the project. She wanted her model to have that "Sally" feel from Nightmare Before Christmas but more darker. She had weeks of practising make-up and hairstyles for the day. She was having a bit of a problem with what the model was goin to wear so I decided to help her. An NQ Fashion student called Miranda Williamson who I knew had made this dress and I thought it would be perfect for her theme and Miranda agreed to let her use it - thanks Miranda! She wanted her model to look very pale and played around with zips and cuts on her face. I think she done an amazing job and put so much hard work into creating this look. She never won the competition (think it was a fix, lol) but had a lot of people talking and admiring her work on the day. Well done Tyesha!!!!

Tubed Dress

TUBED! This was made in my NQ year. Its made from black
stetch fabric and has filled tubes around the skirt and shoulder.

Contradiction

This is one of my 1st designs I did in my NQ year.
My inspiration was Contradiction. I liked the idea of using different fabrics.
I wanted to have a "Good" side and a "Bad" side. I used pink satin, lace and ribbon for the "Good" side so it feels soft and gentle. The "Bad" side was Black PVC, wire mesh in the side panel and chains in the back.
This design won me the Dom Migele Fashion Award and was used in the local newspapers to represent the Fashion Show 2008.

What Fashion Means To Me

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."

This quote by Coco Chanel in what inspires me to love the Fashion industry so much. Fashion is a way of life, a way to make a statement without uttering a word, a way to stand out from the crowd and be noticed. It excites me that you can take inspiration from anything in this world i.e a colour, an object, a mood and then compose a design that reflects that. Fashion is life-enhancing and in my view enhances the world making it a more colourful and beautiful place.

I have be entrigued by Fashion at a very early age and have very fond memories of afternoons spent with my little sister and the dressing-up box . . . . . . .

Pattern making and constructing is one of my favourite areas in the subject. I enjoy seeing my ideas taking form from a basic sketch to the catwalk, it is an amazing feeling. I love to push myself with my ideas by setting myself continuous challenges, such as complex designs and processes and find that using unusual fabric combinations excite me.

I have recently completed my HND in Fashion Design and Manufacture and received 17 merits - I am very proud of myself. I have received a place on Fashion Technolgy Degree course at Heriot Watt in September - woohoo. I can't wait to start. My head is overflowing with ideas already.

Well I thought I'd start of by telling you about me. Not done a blog before and I hope I'm doing it right :)

Will post some of my designs soon
